The Cycle to Work ride will begin at 07h00 Friday, the 17th of May at the Parking Area in front of Maerua Superspar. From here the cyclists will turn left into Centaurus Street, left again on Jan Jonker Road and up to Auspannplatz. The route continues along Independence Avenue, over Simon de Witt Bridge and through Katutura, before turning right on Monte Christo Road, towards the Van Eck Power Station. From here it turns right on Hosea Kutako Drive, left on Robert Mugabe Avenue at the Independence Avenue crossing, continuing towards the Christus Kirche, before turning right on Centaurus Street and once again finishing at the Parking Area in front of Maerua Superspar. The route will be secured by City Police to ensure the safety of all participants. You do not have to cycle the entire distance. You can join or leave at any point of the route.

Cycling clubs in other parts of Namibia, like Walvis Bay and Okahandja will also organise their own Cycle to Work day on May 17, while the Bicycle Empowerment Network Namibia and the Physical Active Youth will try to assist similar initiatives in other parts of Namibia.

This campaign comes at the right time as the Ministry of Works and Transport together with the City of Windhoek and GIZ are working on the Sustainable Urban Transport Master Plan (SUTMP) for the City of Windhoek and surrounding areas. The campaign is vital to the successful implementation of the plan as it suggests the extension of the cycling and walking infrastructure.
